Now The Library of Congress delves into an overview of the party; offers a timeline of its life; and profiles its visionaries, benefactors, and propagandists.

But most importantly, it offers image after image of women willing to go into the streets for their right to vote. Here are a few worth viewing...

• Mrs. Mary A. Nolan -- one of the oldest members on the picket lines.
• Miss Julia Emory of Baltimore, MD -- this daughter of a state senator led protests, suffered police brutality, and was jailed multiple times.
• Matilda Young -- who was just 19 years old when she served her first prison term."

September Project

The September Project is a grassroots effort to encourage public events on freedom, democracy, and citizenship in libraries on or around September 11. September Project events are activitiesof reflection, discussion, and dialogue about the meaning of freedom, the role of information in promoting active citizenship, and the importance of literacy in making sense of the world around us.

Events take place on September 11, on the weekend of September 11, or throughout the month of September. In other words, whenever it works best for your library and community. Libraries around the world are collaborating with organizations to host public and campus events, such as: displays about human rights and historical documents; talks and performances about freedom and cultural difference; and film screenings about issues that matter. What to Bring

• Casual dress that is tasteful (e.g. no tank tops or short shorts) (warm summer days) (Bermuda style shorts are permissible).
• Sweater or jacket for air-conditioned classrooms and cool evenings.
• Shoes, but no sandals (Note that shoes are required at all times).
• Athletic gear (e.g. shorts, t-shirt, athletic shoes, sweat socks, sweat shirt, swim suit, shower shoes).
• Toilet articles.
• Bathrobe (to go from room to showers).
• Towel (shower and beach towels).
• Swimming suit.
• Lock to secure your valuables.
• Telephone calling card to notify your parents upon arrival (or arrange for your family to receive a collect call).
• Disposable camera.

What Not To Bring

• Alcohol, tobacco or non-prescription drugs.
• Cell phones or pagers (telephones will be available)
• Portable radios or other recording/player device

WWII Red Cross Scrapbook

American Red Cross World War II Scrapbook: "You may have known that the Red Cross served the troops during World War II by handing out donuts and coffee, setting up evacuation tents, and hosting dances. But did you think of their talented operatives as playing an accordion or manning a cinemobile?

This touching exhibit commemorates the war experiences of the Red Cross' recreation staff through the memorabilia of several of its workers. With a format that literally asks you to turn each page (drag the corner), the scrapbook shares images of badges, maps, newspaper clippings, and personal snapshots -- including a sweet photograph of a young woman and two very pleased-looking men at a St. Patrick's Day dance.

2005 YLC Dates Announced!

The J.H. Pendleton and J.P. Holland Chapters of the MOWW are pleased to announce the dates for the 2005 Youth Leadership Conference. This year there will be two sessions: July 25-July 28 and August 8-11th. Both sessions will be held at the University of San Diego.
